Great Backup Plan

Another bizarre story from the Dallas Cowboys. The team is apparently benching Brandon Weeden.

And I’m asking why? What- just because he’s lost 11 straight games as a starter? Give the guy some time. You act like the NFL is easy. Or like you have a better replacement.

Matt Cassel takes the reins. And he’s the President of the – Really good guy, really average player club. The kind of guy you want marrying your daughter, but not leading your offense.

If you could convert first downs with a great attitude… Matt Cassel would be Aaron Rodgers.

But the fact is – the Bills didn’t even want him. And now the Cowboys are going to start him.

What recycled starter will be in Dallas when Cassel doesn’t work out – Matt Flynn, Josh Freeman or Kyle Orton? Just close your eyes and pick one.

If you’re going to get Matt Cassel, you’re just one loss away from getting Matt Schaub.

Look- You can’t let Weeden rip off a dozen straight losses. Go ahead and make the quarterback change. But you can’t really expect any change on game day. Especially when Cassel’s only been there for a few weeks.

And even if he’d been there for years, he hasn’t shown that he can play – Ask Buffalo. Or Minnesota. Or KC. Just don’t ask USC… Because according to a report from the AP… Cassel didn’t even start when he was in college. But he’s starting for the Cowboys.

Fact is – it’s a joke that America’s Team let it come to this. You can’t go into a season with Tony Romo and not have a backup plan when he gets broken. And if Weeden and Cassel are your plan- then you don’t have one. Even the dumbest fantasy owner knows to handcuff his key starters with backups. But Jerry Jones doesn’t.

Look at the Steelers – they lost Ben Roethlisberger, but had a plan in place should it happen: they went out and got Michael Vick in August. And because of it … They’re still scrapping wins. Dallas is dropping parts.

Pretty awesome that they brought in Greg Hardy and tarnished their franchise, but they couldn’t even get a decent backup for the face of their franchise.
